Paul Graham?s Checklist, Would You Make The Cut? [Video]

With more than 200 deals since 2005, Y Combinator's Paul Graham knows how to size up a young team of entrepreneurs. However, he didn't get it right from day one.

On Friday, we got a chance to talk to Graham after his morning panel with SV Angel's Ron Conway. He discussed how his strategy has evolved over the past five years and why the balance of power is shifting in Silicon Valley. See videos ahead.

Man who invested $1000 in 2003 claims present-day 84% stake in billion-dollar Facebook

Here's a quick one to kick-start your day with a smile! Paul Ceglia, an (alleged) early investor in Facebook, has come forward and claimed an 84% stake in the company. Facebook is vigorously stating that the lawsuit is 'completely frivolous', but considering a New York judge has temporarily restricted any transfer of Facebook's assets there just might be something to Ceglia's claim.

Back in 2003, Paul Ceglia apparently invested $1000 in the development of Facebook. In exchange he would own 50% of the software, plus 1% for every day it took Mark Zuckerberg to create the site. Seemingly it took 34 days, thus netting Ceglia a grand total of 84% of a company now worth billions.

The Wall Street Journal seems to think this case won't come to anything -- something about a statute of limitations being only six years in New York -- but still, draw your own conclusions!

Facebook's past seems to get muddier each and every day; but whether Zuckerberg is actually a slimy piratical cut-throat, or if this is opportunists simply trying to cash in, who knows.

Magic Trackpad review

Apple's Magic Trackpad isn't the first of its kind -- in fact, Wacom has been playing this game for awhile -- but it's the first of its kind from the cats in Cupertino, so obviously people take notice. The premise of such a device is stupidly simple: it's a laptop trackpad that lives on your desktop. Over the past few years, there have been rumors that Steve Jobs has his sights set on eliminating buttons from Apple products altogether, and this certainly feels like the next step in the plan. But does it make sense? Is this an improvement over standard input devices like a mouse or trackball? More importantly, in the age of iPads and netbooks, does anyone even need an external input device like this? We're going to try and answer those questions (and more), so read on for our full review!

Validas study finds Verizon smartphones consuming more data than iPhones

You know how we've good reason to believe that Verizon Wireless is at least mulling the switch to capped / tiered data plans? Yeah. An independent Validas research report has found that, between January and May of this year (pre-AT&T caps), Verizon's stable of smartphones collectively averaged more data consumption per month that Apple's iPhone. Of course, this quite literally compares an Apple to every smartphone on Verizon save for BlackBerries, but given how much squalling we've heard from Ma Bell about this rampant iPhone data usage, we're pleased to see a few facts that spin things the other way. The company's full report is due out in September, but investigation of over 20,000 wireless bills found that VZW smartphones "are consuming more wireless data than AT&T iPhones by a ratio of roughly 1.25:1," with the average Verizon user eating up 421MB per month and the average iPhone user consuming 338MB per month. It also points out that "nearly twice as many Verizon Wireless smartphone users are consuming 500MB to 1GB per month compared to AT&T iPhone users." You learn something new everyday, right?Continue reading Validas study finds Verizon smartphones consuming more data than iPhonesValidas study finds Verizon smartphones consuming more data than iPhones originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 30 Jul 2010 09:19:00 EDT. Download Squad tips its hat: Speed Dial for Google Chrome

Last week, Jay and I were chatting and he mentioned stumbling across something cool in one of our favorite Google Chrome extensions: Speed Dial. You may have seen it posted last year, but it's come a long way since then -- adding new features and growing its user base to more than 150,000. Jay caught something I hadn't noticed (it's been ages since I changed anything on my Speed Dial page): support for pre-defined logos.

...And we were excited to find ourselves listed! Alongside other great blogs like CNet, PC Magazine, and Lifehacker, you'll find Download Squad. That's pretty select company, and we're all grateful for being included.

So thank you, josorek, for your hard work and for making us part of your extension. Motorola manages $162 million Q2 profit, turns that frown upside down

It's a good day here, because rather than poor 'ol Sad Moto we get to bust out Happy Moto, as Motorola has released some good news in its Q2 financial report. Earnings were $162 million, up from $26 million this time last year. That sounds like a big jump, but compared to overall sales of $5.4 billion you can see things are still rather tight -- especially since those sales were down from $5.5 billion the year before and all-important mobile device sales figures dropped six percent to $1.7 billion. Also, these numbers were boosted by a "significant legal settlement" valued at $228 million. Maybe intellectual property wasn't the only thing Moto got from RIM?Motorola manages $162 million Q2 profit, turns that frown upside down originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 29 Jul 2010 07:51:00 EDT. How many trees must die for iWave's Earth-friendly headphones, iPhone cases? (update)

We're not experts or anything, but cutting down trees to manufacture your headphones ($30), ear buds ($20), and iPhone cases ($25) does not really seem all that "green" to us. But what good is selling stuff made from "reusable, environmentally friendly and recyclable materials" if you can't broadcast your sense of social responsibility with "rustic wood grain finishes and smooth earthy tones" that "mirror the true beauty that surrounds us?" Is we right, or is we right? The Grass Roots Collection (get it?) starts shipping August 1st. PR after the break.

Update: A rep from from iWave just sent in an email to assure us that no trees whatsoever were harmed in the making of the Grass Roots collection. We just want to take this opportunity to set the record straight -- and to point out that the Earth in the above illustration reminds us of a Chia Pet. Droid Incredible costs just under $164 to build, iSuppli says

A while back, the Droid Incredible was torn apart and revealed some things we never knew it was capable of. Like an FM transmitter tuner, and full 720p video recording. Recently, however, another dissection done by iSuppli Corp’s reveals that the Incredible has a $163.35 Bill of Materials (BOM) price tag. Although the Nexus One’s BOM is slightly higher – $174.15 – the materials used are almost identical except, of course, support for Verizon’s CDMA network. What adds to the price tag? That bright AMOLED screen and DDR RAM for starters, and apparently that Snapdragon CPU isn’t in the bargain bin, either. Those three components cost about $90 total, and when you add in some of the other features such as the camera, Bluetooth, and all the mechanical and electro-mechanical gizmos, it adds up pretty quickly. This goes to show that building a quality smartphone costs more than nickels and dimes to the manufacturer, but the end result is definitely worth it. Apple's Magic Trackpad gets the iFixit teardown treatment, nothing terribly magical found

iPod touch becomes iPhone using Yosion's Apple Peel 520?

Oh sure, VoIP on the iPod touch is hardly breaking news these days, but what if you could actually slap on a regular SIM card and make calls on said device? That's what Yosion's appropriately named Apple Peel 520 claims to do. Powered by an Infineon baseband chip, this adapter not only offers voice calling and text messaging (presumably requiring a jailbroken iPod touch for the apps; GPRS not possible yet), but it also doubles up as an 800mAh battery and provides 4.5 hours of call time or 120 hours of standby juice. We're told this cheeky hack's coming out in China as early as this week for somewhere between ¥300 ($44) and ¥500 ($74), although the lack of an official website, full spec sheet or compatibility list means we'll have to remain skeptical with this potentially vaporware company. Maybe the demo video after the break will keep us believing.

Super-charge your Canon PowerShot camera (shoot RAW format!) with CHDK

Filed under: Photo, Utilities, Imaging TipsCHDK, or Canon Hack Development Kit, can magically turn your regular Canon PowerShot into a professional workhorse capable of shooting RAW files, displaying live histograms, motion detection and even executing Lua script.

Seriously, CHDK takes almost any PowerShot camera and turns it into a device that is probably worth twice as much as you paid for it. Just being able to shoot RAW images is almost enough to make me buy a PowerShot for those times when my DSLR is just too big for the job. Heck, with CHDK, a PowerShot can actually do more than my DSLR!

Anyway, as I don't actually own a PowerShot yet, I can't provide a proper hands-on review of CHDK. Instead, I point you towards an excellent two-part write-up and tutorial over at LinuxPlanet. You should be warned that while it's not particularly hard to install CHDK, it does come with associated risks. Don't go anywhere near the experimental builds unless you really know what you're doing.

Android phone sales in the UK are up 300% this year

A report by the Guardian states that Android smartphone sales in the UK have tripled since the beginning of the year. Now one in 10 handsets sold in the United Kingdom is running Android, and contract market share has grown by 10.2 percentage points since the first quarter. The HTC Desire and HTC Legend remain the most popular handsets in the UK, but Samsung has recently released the Galaxy S, which will present another attractive option for customers.  HTC's Wildfire also presents an attractive smartphone at a lower price, which will bring consumers into the market who can't afford the high-end phones. These are pretty staggering numbers, but most impressive is the Android name gaining traction: "The figures suggest an increasing number of consumers are now asking for Android handsets by name," said GfK analyst Megan Baldock. "Operating systems are no longer simply a by-product but a key selling point in their own right."Apple has done an amazing job marketing the iPhone to be synonymous with a smartphone. However, Android has done a remarkable job in a short time of branding itself and it will only continue to grow. PSX4Droid brings spiky-haired protagonists to your Googlephone (video)

The HTC HD2 did it, and so did the iPhone 3GS (assuming you jailbroke), but now you can get your blocky amnesiac ex-SOLDIER action on Android courtesy of ZodTTD and yongzh. Their PSX4Droid app just launched on the Android Market for $5.99, and -- despite a few glitches -- it emulates PlayStation games like a charm, complete with multiple scaling modes and save states. Watch a Galaxy S rock the likes of Final Fantasy VII and Ridge Racer after the break, plus Crash Bandicoot on a Nexus One and some paired Wiimote action with a Dell Streak. Then, challenge yourself to adhere to intellectual property law instead of immediately hunting down ROMs and a BIOS file. We dare you.

Panasonic's consumer-grade 3D camcorder leaks out, the HDC-SDT750

digg_url = 'http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/25/panasonics-consumer-grade-3d-camcorder-leaks-out-the-hdc-sdt75/';
We'd heard Panasonic was planning a more affordable stereoscopic 3D camcorder, but it looks like we won't have to wait until a mysterious July 28th Tokyo unveiling to find out for sure -- it's called the HDC-SDT750, and Panny's advertising it as the "World's first 3D Shooting Camcorder." Leaks at all the seams of the company's website afforded us the above picture, and the surprising revelation that the product may not be a brand-new camcorder, but rather an existing high-end 3MOS model (we'd guess the HDC-HS700) with a "3D conversion lens" attached. If the yet-to-be-activated product page's source code can be believed, the SDT750 will shoot in 1080p AVCHD at 60fps, feature Panny's proprietary Hybrid O.I.S. image stabilization technology, and come in a lovely shade of Henry Ford black. That's all we have for now (save a second tiny picture after the break) but rest assured we'll be keeping tabs on this one.

[Thanks, John]Continue reading Panasonic's consumer-grade 3D camcorder leaks out, the HDC-SDT750Panasonic's consumer-grade 3D camcorder leaks out, the HDC-SDT750 originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 25 Jul 2010 13:04:00 EDT. Adobe Air peer-to-peer video call concept Android app hands-on (video)

If you recall, a few days ago we stumbled upon a cheekily-named concept app (which has since been renamed for obvious reasons) from Adobe that does video-calling on Android. This is pretty rad considering it's just Qik and Fring offering the same service for the green bot right now, so we trotted along to Adobe's London office to get a closer look at this demo. As with many things in life, not all went as planned as you can see after the break -- the video stream froze up on several occasions, but then again Adobe's Mark Doherty only spent three days cooking this simple app. Regardless, this should still help Android developers understand the beefed-up peer-to-peer capabilities in the forthcoming Air 2.5 runtime, which is now "feature-complete" and undergoing extensive testing ahead of launch later this year.

Things are less positive for Flash availability on other mobile platforms, though. While Nokia's just waiting for a Linux SDK before it can start porting Flash apps to its devices within 2010, Adobe implied that it's still waiting for two other vendors to respond -- Palm's already been shown a Flash build running on webOS devices, and it's just a matter of the company signing up for Adobe's device certification system; RIM, on the other hand, is a bit more vague, but we were told it's definitely interested in both Air and Flash. And here's the surprise of the day: no comment on Flash for iOS (not to be confused with its digital publishing tools for the iPad), but there's no stopping you from hacking it in yourself.Continue reading Adobe Air peer-to-peer video call concept Android app hands-on (video)Adobe Air peer-to-peer video call concept Android app hands-on (video) originally appeared on Engadget on Sat, 24 Jul 2010 15:33:00 EDT. ASUS Eee PC 1018P and 1015PE review

You'd think after running into ASUS's next generation Eee PC 1018P and 1015PE over five months ago at CeBIT, our excitement may have waned for the stylish netbooks. Sure, the $350 1018P and 1015PE have standard netbook internals (an Intel Atom N450 CPU, 1GB of RAM and Windows 7 Starter), but without a doubt they're some of the best quality netbooks ASUS has made in quite a while. How to Achieve Device Independence by Taking a Platform Approach to Mobility

Businesses today are often forced to choose between having their workforces use one type of mobile device that might not meet everyone's needs or several devices with rogue usage that can't be controlled. That's why it's so important for businesses to be device-independent when deploying an enterprisewide mobility initiative. Here, Knowledge Center contributor Jason Wong explains how businesses can achieve device independence and how this will benefit all parties involved in enterprise mobility deployments, including users, IT and the overall business. - In just 10 years, the wireless smartphone market has gone from virtually nonexistent to becoming a household term worldwide. At the start of the millennium, Research in Motion (RIM) was pretty much the only significant vendor selling what were then called quot;wireless PDAs. quot; Today, there are ...

Sony, Tohoku University develop blue-violet laser with 100 watt output, eyeing 1TB optical disk future?

As much as some would like to envision a world entirely bereft of disk-based media, with Blu-ray being the medium's swan song, that ain't happening. Sony's already looking to the future, and in cahoots with Tohoku University, it has developed a blue-violet laser capable of 100 watt output. That's reportedly more than 100 times the "world's highest output values for conventional blue-violet pulse semiconductor lasers." In the press release, the company said its tested using such technology for next-generation, large-capacity optical disc-storage, and while that doesn't say too much at face value, the Examiner reports (by way of various Japanese news outlets) that it equates to 20 times the storage of current Blu-ray disks,or about 1TB of data. Don't worry, we're sure all those 4K 3D films will still find a way to justify a "barebones" release dearth of features before magically making room for a second (and even third) Special Edition in time for respective holiday seasons.Sony, Tohoku University develop blue-violet laser with 100 watt output, eyeing 1TB optical disk future? originally appeared on Engadget on Sat, 24 Jul 2010 02:54:00 EDT. Adobe Flash 11 will feature a proper 3D rendering engine and API

Filed under: Games, Internet, AdobeThe next version of Flash, amidst growing competition from emerging 3D-in-the-browser technologies WebGL and O3D, will feature support for 3D graphics.

But don't get too excited just yet -- we'll probably have to wait until October and the Adobe MAX 2010 conference before we find out more. There, on October 27th, a Flash player engineer will give a talk about "the next-generation 3D API coming in a future version of Flash Player." How exciting is that?!

It's an interesting move, and I feel that it's just in time too. WebGL and O3D might be exciting propositions in themselves, but they don't enjoy almost-100% saturation -- not yet at least. Every existing Web game maker uses Flash -- and you can be guaranteed that they'd rather code 3D games and applications for a platform they already intimately know.

It sure looks like Adobe isn't going to give up on Flash without a fight. First peer-to-peer transfers with 10.1, and now proper 3D. Assuming the 3D performance is good enough, we could see some very interesting FPS and MMORPG Flash games next year.Adobe Flash 11 will feature a proper 3D rendering engine and API originally appeared on Download Squad on Fri, 09 Jul 2010 09:00:00 EST. IBM's zEnterprise architecture makes mainframes cool again, also efficient (video)

There's a good chance you think mainframes are about as cool as pocket protectors, your parents on Facebook, and COBOL... the latter of which, of course, is largely executed on mainframes. If so, stand still while IBM blows the doors (and the dust) off of your mainframe misconceptions with its new zEnterprise 196, offering 96 5.2GHz cores, 3TB of RAM, and hot swappable I/O drawers for when you need to change pants in a hurry. All this is said to boost performance by 60 percent compared to its predecessor, the z10, while also reducing energy consumption by a claimed 80 percent -- though that could be compared to people sitting in tanning booths performing calculations with abacuses for all we know. However, you can drop consumption a further 12 percent by opting for the water cooling system, nice if your AC unit is already struggling. IBM will start shipping these behemoths sometime in the last quarter of this year and didn't mention pre-orders, so get ready to rent the biggest truck you can find and camp out in Armonk if you want yours on release day.Continue reading IBM's zEnterprise architecture makes mainframes cool again, also efficient (video)IBM's zEnterprise architecture makes mainframes cool again, also efficient (video) originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 23 Jul 2010 07:39:00 EDT. Guru'board cancels Miniguru keyboard project

It seemed like a bit of a longshot when it was announced back in January, and Guru'board has unfortunately now confirmed those fears -- the Miniguru keyboard project has been canceled. In case you missed it, the Miniguru was designed to be a completely customizable keyboard that would basically let you keep your fingers on the home row at all times (a modifier key would let you turn JKLI keys into arrows, and the caps lock into control). True to its name, they keyboard would have also been small, and it seemed like it would have been fairly high-end, with three different types of mechanical key switches available. As for the reason for the cancellation, Guru'board says it simply "lost faith in being able to sell the initial production run."

Secunia ranks Apple first in software insecurity, Safari said to have AutoFill vulnerability

Bad news, Oracle. You've slipped to second place for the first time in years. The good news is that it's in Secunia's ranking of the top ten companies with the most software vulnerabilities, which is now topped by Apple -- Microsoft remains in third place, followed by HP and Adobe. According to Secunia, Apple's vulnerabilities are mostly not in OS X, but in Safari, iTunes and other applications. What's important to note, however, is that Secunia's definition of "vulnerability" doesn't simply include dangerous, exploitable vulnerabilities, so the rankings don't necessarily indicate which software is the most insecure from a user's point of view.

One vulnerability that is potentially serious, however, is an issue with Safari's AutoFill feature recently discovered by Jeremiah Grossman of WhiteHat Security. According to Grossman, a malicious website can exploit the feature to pull data from a user's address book without their knowledge, which has been demonstrated to take "mere seconds" by a bit of proof of concept code (you can try out yourself if you're feeling trusting). Grossman also says he's informed Apple of the vulnerability but hasn't received a response, and suggests that the only "fix" in the meantime is to turn off the AutoFill feature completely.

Update: AllThingsD has a statement from Apple on the AutoFill issue -- a spokesperson says "we take security and privacy very seriously," and that, "we're aware of the issue and working on a fix."Secunia ranks Apple first in software insecurity, Safari said to have AutoFill vulnerability originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 22 Jul 2010 15:31:00 EDT. Firefox Friday Five: Firefox Home for iPhone available, 'it's like you're really there' with (earth)QuakeyFox, India's first Web browser, the Mozilla app store... and more!

Filed under: Features, Mozilla, BrowsersGood afternoon! I have good news and bad news. This will be my last Firefox Friday for July, because I'm going on holiday. Lee and Matthew will pick up the slack while I'm gone. A different point of view is always interesting and I thoroughly look forward to reading the column while on vacation, sprawled across a babe-blanketed balmy beach somewhere in Eastern Europe...

Anyway, there's a lot of stuff to cover this week, so let's dive right in with the most pertinent morsel!

1. Firefox Home now available for your iPhone and iPod Touch (and iPad, I think)

Get it while it's hot! It's free (obviously), and promises to revolutionize your mobile Web experience. Here's a direct iTunes link if you want to dive right in.

We've already covered Firefox Home a bunch of times, so I'll spare you the details and jump right into the next juicy bit of Firefox news.

2. Mozilla App Store will offer a middle-ground between Android's openness and Apple's walled playground for Web apps

It's still in a very early stage of development -- heck, it might still just be ideas on a whiteboard -- but with Google obviously working hard on a Chrome Web Store, I think Mozilla will soon start showing off early prototypes of its "open" Web app store.

Web apps-in-a-tab are the next stage in the 'platformication' of browsers, and thanks to Apple's proven app store model you can be certain that a huge ecosystem will sprout up around commercial (and free) in-the-browser applications. Don't worry about weird, draconian moderation either: Mozilla has already stipulated than such a store would only host applications based on open standards like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

What remains to be seen is whether people will pay for such apps. The Technology Review story points out that Salesforce has had success in selling business-oriented Web apps, so there is a market out there. What I want to know is whether Web apps written in HTML and JavaScript can be protected by DRM...

Don't forget, Firefox 4 now has App Tabs, too!

3. Mozilla Summit yields a bunch of fun and useful Jetpack add-ons (including one that shakes your browser during earthquakes...)

It seems news of the Mozilla app store wasn't the only cool thing to come out of the Mozilla Summit last week in Canada! During the event, attendees were cajoled into developing add-ons using Jetpack and the new Web-based Add-ons Builder (which is very cool, if you haven't seen it yet!).

The results were, unsurprisingly, pretty damn cool! The Most Useful award went to Copy ShortURL, but Most Creative went to the excellently-named QuakeyFox. All it does is scan the USGS earthquake RSS feed -- and if there's an earthquake anywhere in the world, your browser window shakes! (How damn cool is it that there's an earthquake RSS feed? Who needs Twitter?!)

Most Fun -- and really, this one's genius -- was awarded to Too Old For Facebook. Install or 'Test' it, and then visit Facebook. It made my brain hurt.

4. Regain the ability to watch full-screen videos on Facebook!

If, like me, you use Facebook as your primary source of abominable animal videos, you may have noticed that the 'fullscreen' button recently disappeared from videos imported from external sites like YouTube and Vimeo. Firefox Facts speculates that Facebook doesn't want us to leave the Facebook environment, even if it's only to watch a full-screen video -- but who cares? The point is: the full-screen button's gone and you want it back!

All you need is Greasemonkey and a tiny Userscript -- and voila! Full-screen video in Facebook. (Click the image to watch a truly awesome video, incidentally.)

5. India gets its very own Web browser based on Firefox, also first browser to feature built-in anti-virus protection

Other than its rather unfortunate name -- Epic Browser (really!) -- this is probably the coolest Firefox-derivative I've ever seen. It's basically Firefox -- all the menus and options are the same -- but with the entire browser chrome reworked to make it both user- and Indian-friendly.

Epic Browser's main feature is the massive sidebar chock full of handy add-ons and widgets. You have one-click access to Facebook, Orkut, email, videos -- and, most importantly, built-in Indic language transliteration (powered by Google!) If you read the FAQ you can get a fairly good idea of what Epic Browser does and what modifications they've made.

The Epic site claims there are thousands of sidebar widgets and themes -- but considering the, er, confident hyperbole -- faster! instantly! one-click! maximum!! -- used throughout, I wouldn't be surprised if that's a slight exaggeration. Still, Epic Browser is free, and built on Firefox 3.6.6, so it's pretty darn fast. Its developers seemingly haven't made their changes open source though... for shame!

You Are On Pandora: Service Hits 60 Million Listeners, Adding Users Faster Than Ever

Yesterday at the New Music Seminar in New York, the streaming music recommendation service Pandora announced that they now have 60 million listeners registered. This is up from 50 million in April, and 40 million in December. Before that, it took them all over 2009 to double in size from 20 million to 40 million. In other words, the service is now adding users faster than ever.

And that shouldn't come as a big surprise to anyone who has used the service. While it's great on the desktop, it's even better on mobile devices. And now that they're on iPhone, Android, and several other mobile devices, it is becoming sort of the de-facto new version of radio. And with the release of iOS 4 for the iPhone, Pandora finally got another killer feature: the ability to stream music in the background. I have no doubt that usage is skyrocketing thanks to that -- Pandora has long been one of the all time most popular iPhone apps.XILINX WESTERN DIGITAL

Awesome Screenshot for Google Chrome does annotations, sharing

Folks like those of us on the Download Squad team might have more use for screenshot tools than some, but they're still incredibly handy from time to time even if you're not blogging or designing. If you spend most of your time in your web browser -- and that browser happens to be Google Chrome -- you might want to check out Awesome Screenshot by the folks behind Diigo.

What makes it awesome? For starters, it can capture both the visible portion of a page or the entire thing -- and scrolling web pages aren't always support by capture tools. It's also got a nice built-in editor which provides all the functions I typically need when cleaning up a screenshot: crop, shape drawing tools, arrows, editable(!) text, and a blur tool for hiding sensitive information.

When you're finished editing, your image is presented on the page and you can save it locally via a right click or upload and share with the push of a button.

Here's my one gripe about the extension: the links it provides are gigantic. Like many tools which upload to pict.com, the URLs Awesome Screenshot spits out are way longer than, say, an imgur or yfrog link. That creates an extra step sometimes if you're pasting a link into apps which don't auto-truncate.

Hopefully future versions will offer a choice of image host -- if so, Awesome Screenshot will be even better than it already is. And it's already pretty dang good.

Thanks, Maggie!Awesome Screenshot for Google Chrome does annotations, sharing originally appeared on Download Squad on Wed, 21 Jul 2010 10:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsINFOCUS IMS HEALTH

Microsoft Giving Away Windows Phone 7 Handsets To All Employees

Microsoft is in a giving mood. Just last month they gave out hundreds of Xbox 360s to E3 attendees — even sent one to the TechCrunch office for no particular reason. Now they're going to be giving away Windows Phone 7 handsets to every Microsoft employee, if we are to believe what we read on Twitter.

We recently got our hands on a WP7 unit and put up our in-depth impressions of Microsoft's new mobile OS, and our verdict is cautious optimism. But even if it were the hottest thing we'd ever seen, Microsoft would still be in a pickle when it comes to getting these things out there. Giving away something like 90,000 phones ought to help with that.ALLIANCE DATA SYSTEMS ALLTEL
